Learning on the Road: Derby E Team Battle Hard in Belper
A completely new line-up travelled to Belper for the E team’s second Derbyshire League match, continuing the club’s aim of giving as many players as possible a taste of over-the-board chess. Despite a 3½–½ loss, the evening was full of learning, camaraderie, and the true spirit of the Chess Forge.

A tough 4–0 loss for the B Team against a powerful Lichfield/Burton side, but plenty of determination was shown throughout. The team remain positive and ready to bounce back.

Newly promoted Derby C played their opening match against one of the toughest opponents in the division. Despite a spirited fight they narrowly lost to Clay Cross A.

Derby Teams Clash in Season Opener
Both our top two teams both are in the 1st Division this season. They started their 2025/26 campaigns with a clash against each other. In a hard fought match the A team took the win.
Spirited Competition in “Start of Season” Quickplay
The first “Friendly Shield” tournament of the season was a great success. Members, new and old, fought for mastery of the 64 squares in a four-round quick-play.

On Tuesday (06/05/25), we revisited Chess 960 for our final “first Tuesday of the month” social event for the 24/25 season. With 20 players this was the biggest turnout for our events so far!

In the season finale, the C Team defeat Burton & Lichfield C (the champions) to confirm their second place and promotion.

A win by default opens up the route for Derby B to win the 2nd Division championship.
