Awards Presented at Derby’s AGM

Derby Chess Club’s AGM was held on Tuesday 20th May. It has been a good year for the club.

  • The A team finished fourth in the 1st Division.

  • The B team came second in the 2nd Division and is promoted to the 1st Division.

  • The C team came second in the 3rd Division and is promoted to the 2nd Division

  • The D team finished fifth in the 3rd Division.

  • We won the Derbyshire Jamboree Cup and the Junior Club won the Junior section.

Several competition presentations were made.

  • David Smith won the Dave Heelan Trophy (Club Championship)

  • John Tompson won the Friendly Shield (social chess - handicap system)

Lifetime titles were awarded. These are based on earning six norms. Norms are gained by playing games for the club and achieving a certain grade (or in the case of Club Social Master playing in our events).
