Derby D Leap up Table in their Final Match

On Tuesday (29/3) Derby D set off to Clay Cross Chess Club to play the final game of the season against their B team.

There were draws on boards one and four. I was able to win on the third board. Garry was the exchange up and kept tightening his grip - driving his opponent into submission

3-1 was a good win for us in the last match of the season and I believe has propelled us from eighth place in the table to fifth - overtaking Spondon on “goal difference”.

Well done everyone!

Also a big thanks to Colin who has continued to captain a team and play for us despite no longer working or living near Derby. Understandably, Colin is standing down next season and we wish him well in his future chess (and all other!) endeavours! - Kevin
