King George of Chess 960!

On Tuesday (06/05/25), we revisited Chess 960 for our final “first Tuesday of the month” social event for the 24/25 season. For those not familiar, this involves the shuffling of the pieces on the back rank. The result is a fresh position, that invalidates all our finely developed opening theory!

With 20 players this was the biggest turnout for our events so far!

George Burdell won the tournament overall. He is obviously the master of this format as he won our inaugural Chess 960 event last November.

Given the popularity of this event I am certain this will be something that will be in next year’s schedule!

Each of our social event feeds into the “Friendly Shield” - which is handicapped based on player strength. This is now complete for the 24/25 season - there will be a separate news item on the overall results soon!
