Competitive Chess in 2026/27

Derby Chess Club provides a variety of chess experiences, from friendly games on club evenings, fun friendly tournaments every month and our own internal club championships. A key part of our offering is the chance to play in competitive games against other clubs in the Derbyshire Chess League.

We run a series of teams, with representation in all four divisions. After the success of the E Team “Chess Forge” team last year, we are planning to repeat that option for “new to competive chess” players with a new F Team (last years cohort will continue in the E team!).

If you are a member of the club then you should have received an e-mail asking you to indicate whether (and how much) competitive chess you would like to play. If you are a potential new member then please contact us (details are on our home page). It is really important we understand the demand at the beginning of the season, as it can be very hard to readjust teams mid season (due to eligibility rules of the league).

Derby Chess Club’s first session of the 2026/27 season in on the 1st September, 7.30 at the Methodist Church Hall, Mickleover. Potential new members are always welcome.
