Derby C Win 4–0 to Escape Relegation Zone

On Tuesday (10/03/26), Derby C faced Rolls Royce D in a crucial match that offered the chance to climb out of the Division 2 relegation places.

The evening began with an unexpected boost when Rolls Royce defaulted board four, denying Matt the chance to build on his previous win but giving Derby an immediate 1–0 lead. On board one, Leonid faced an experienced opponent and declined a draw offer in an equal position on move 20; his ambition paid off when Maurice later slipped, allowing Leonid to win a pawn and convert the game.

On board two, I employed the London System and expanded on the queenside, gradually provoking weaknesses in my opponent’s position. Tactical complications eventually left him in a lost position and Derby moved further ahead. Shah’s game was the most dramatic of the night: after the position initially swung in his opponent’s favour, he defended resourcefully in a very double-edged battle, gradually turning the tables as errors crept in and ultimately securing the win.

The final score of 4–0 lifted Derby C clear of the relegation places — a highly satisfying result.
