Derby B Lose to Breadsall
On the 21st April we entertained Breadsall in our final match of the season, hoping for a point that would secure our place in the top division next year. In the event we lost 3-1 against a reasonably strong Breadsall four.
Skott, on board one, reports that he played an Accelerated Dragon defence and felt he reached an even game, but that pressing for more and trying to open up his opponent's kingside he left himself open to a strong counter-attack which carried the day. Justin, on board two, says his game was equal and fairly uneventful with neither side holding the edge as the endgame approached, when a draw was agreed.
My game was a Sämisch King's Indian, which is rarely a dull opening. A balanced position was reached but in going for the now-required win I allowed an attack from my opponent which prevailed. Stuart, on board four, played a solid game and reached an early draw.
This result meant that we depended on the outcome of other matches, which fortunately fell in our favour — so we stay in Division One for next season.
