The 2015/16 Derby Chess Club season started with a couple of quick-fire tournaments. Continue reading Shaking the Rust Off With Quick-play
To celebrate the start of a new chess season, we will be holding a quickplay tournament on the evening of the 16th September. Time limits are 15 minutes each for the whole game and it will consist of four rounds. There will be a simple time handicap for the higher graded players when playing less strong members.
This is a good event to catch-up and remove some of the “summer rust”. For people interested in the club it’s a great opportunity to come and experience the club and meet some of the members.
Please arrive by 7:20pm to register for a 7:30pm prompt start
Dave Williams was presented with the Dave Heelan Memorial Cup on Tuesday evening (8th October). The cup is awarded to the overall winner of the club tournament. This competition awards points for games played on club nights, matches against other clubs and various special events held throughout the year. Last season Dave earned 153 points , primarily on the back of an excellent season for the A team and an uncanny knack of performing well in the quick-play tournaments we held throughout the year.
This season’s competition is now underway. Dave is making a good start to his defence of the cup, moving into an early lead. There is still a long way to go and I am sure some of the other club members have not given up yet!
