Shaking the Rust Off With Quick-play

The 2015/16 Derby Chess Club season started with a couple of quick-fire tournaments.

On Tuesday 8th September the traditional opening night tournament took place. The handicap system was in place which resulted in some stressful moments for the better players, when they only had ten minutes for their game against their opponents twenty. Jaime Castro┬ábeat last year’s winner Dave Williams in the final round to take the honours (see full table).

On Tuesday 15th September, with an unexpected free evening, there was demand for another quick-play tournament Again Jaime took the honours, this time taking your erstwhile correspondent out in the final round. Dave Williams, Andre Cockburn and myself coming in equal second (see full table).

League matches start next week, but with no home matches and only the A team playing away, there should be plenty of members around for casual games.
